It has become a symbol of Alanya. The castle is located on a peninsula with a total area of 10 hectares and surrounded by walls 6 km long. It is known that Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman civilizations succeeded each other here. The settlement on the peninsula continues today, and the castle itself has turned into a museum and is open to visitors. A paved road leads to the top of the castle. It can be reached on foot, by car, by public transport or by cable car, recently built in the northern part of the castle.
Another tourist destination in Alanya, the Red Tower, is one of the structures built during the Alaaddin Keykubat period to see any attack from the sea. The five-story tower has an octagonal architecture. The top floor of the tower can be a great place for those who want to enjoy views of the city and the sea.
The shipyard, which can be reached by boat from the sea or on foot along the aisles near the walls of the Red Tower, is 56 meters wide and consists of 5 compartments.
The shipbuilding facility in Alanya has historical significance, as it is the first Seljuk shipyard in the Mediterranean. Alaaddin Keykubat was awarded the title “Sultan of the Two Seas” after the construction of this shipyard.
The structure, built of rubble and brick, has a rectangular shape. In the past it was used as a warehouse. Opposite the entrance in the center one row of columns was erected. In the center of the ceiling is a skylight.
Tophane on the castle:
Located next to the Alanya shipyard, it was built in 1227 on a cliff about 10 meters high. Tophant offers a magnificent view of the old streets and houses of Alanya. Strolling around the Tophane area, you can also see unique species of plants and butterflies.
Ehmedek castle is located in the northern part of the Alanya castle and consists of two separate sections with three towers. The fortress was built by Alaaddin Keykubat I to prevent land attacks.
